Offering tea is a universal sign of friendship and hospitality. And it is no different in Japan. Unlike Western cups, Japanese tea cups don't have handles. So instead of extending the handle toward the recipient, In Japan, the tea cup is offered to a guest using both hands. One hand holds the bottom and the other gently holds the cup allowing the recipient room to grab the cup. Using both hands makes the passing safer but also expresses friendship. It's kind of like a hug instead of a handshake. Embrace the Japanese aesthetic and create a memorable experience with friends.
