Beautifully crafted teaware from China and Japan. Pottery was invented in China thousands of years ago and its secrets spread throughout the world. China continues its tradition while adding some modern designs.
Japanese tea culture developed its own designs using techniques borrowed from the ancient Chinese. While similar to the untrained eye, there are many differences. For example, the cherry blossom is very celebrated in both cultures and is the theme of many decorations. The Japanese tend render the blossoms in a more stylized form and using a vivid pallet, while the Chinese are more demure in the renderings.
We feature some very modern teaware from Japan. Our vivid color teacups are an excellent example. The cups are much larger and the colors are totally modern, yet the shape of the tea cup is classic Japanese with a very elegant form.
