Black Hobnail 10 Ounces
  • Elevate your tea experience with this cast iron tea pot made in a traditional Japanese hobnail pattern.   A stainless infuser basket allows precision tea steeping and the dense cast iron holds the heat longer than ceramic tea pots. The exterior is finished in a fine matte black patina. The inside is fully enameled for great tasting tea. This smaller sized teapot is cute and perfect for you personal tea time time.

Much more durable than ceramic teapots.  Not intended to be used on a stove. For making hot water we suggest our electric tea kettle with variable temperature settings. Your premium Sencha and Gyokuro require lower steeping temperatures.

    10 Ounce capacity.

    Use Instructions.

Preheat your teapot for best results.

Boil water. Remove lid and infuser basket.  Pour about a cup of hot water into the teapot.  Let hot water sit in teapot for 2 minutes with lid on. Keep infuser basket aside.  Pour out the hot water in the teapot into the sink. Your teapot should be very hot to the touch.

Pay attention to steeping temperatures and times.

Measure tea according to tea instructions on tea pouch or tea tin.  Put tea inside the infuser basket.  Place basket in the teapot. Slowly pour heated water over the tea leaves into teapot.  Be careful not to splash the hot water. Cover with lid. Steep tea at correct temperature and for the correct time as per instructions on tea pouch or tin.  Carefully remove the infuser basket and set aside. Replace lid and pour tea into your cups. Gently place your hand on the lid to keep it secure while pouring tea.

  • Steeping Instructions

1 teaspoon per 8 oz of water. Fluffy leaves like some Oolongs, use 2 teaspoons. For stronger tea use more tea.   There is no hard and fast rules on steeping except over steeping may make tea bitter.   If you are unsure, try cooler water and shorter steeping times. Below are general steeping instructions.  For best results, follow the steeping instructions that came with your tea.
To estimate water temperature use a thermometer or wait a 2-3 minutes after the water stops boiling. Then the water temperature should be about 165- 185 F. You can gauge water temperature by looking at the bubbles forming at the bottom of the tea kettle.  When pin size bubbles form, the water temperature is about 185F. To take the guess work out of water temperatures, try our electric tea kettle.
