  • Steeping Instructions

1 teaspoon per 8 oz of water. Fluffy leaves like some Oolongs, use 2 teaspoons. For stronger tea use more tea.   There is no hard and fast rules on steeping except over steeping may make tea bitter.   If you are unsure, try cooler water and shorter steeping times. Below are general steeping instructions.  For best results, follow the steeping instructions that came with your tea.
To estimate water temperature use a thermometer or wait a 2-3 minutes after the water stops boiling. Then the water temperature should be about 165- 185 F. You can gauge water temperature by looking at the bubbles forming at the bottom of the tea kettle.  When pin size bubbles form, the water temperature is about 185F. To take the guess work out of water temperatures, try our electric tea kettle.

Tea Type Steeping Temperature Steeping Time

    Oolong Tea 170-190 F 2-3 minutes
    Black Tea 200-212 F 3-5 minutes

A classic black tea from Sri Lanka with a delicious clean tangy aroma, and refreshing citrus taste.

Sri Lanka’s balmy island has been given many names. Its current name in Sanskrit means “resplendent island.” The British called it Ceylon, derived from another Indian word meaning “blood of a lion,” a term reserved for heroes. The Persians called it “Serendib”, from which the word serendipity was coined. And so it goes for any unsuspecting adventurer who takes a sip of this unassuming tea, bound to serendipitously discover a resplendent brew that truly is the hero of its own story. Along the bronze-hued beaches and temple ruins of that marvelous island, favorable trade winds have created many microclimates suitable for growing a diversity of teas. And the tropic climate has produced year-round harvests. This Ceylon is a classic black tea that lives up to its home-grown heritage.

Smell it first. You’ll be greeted with a clean, tangy aroma. Take a sip. You’ll meet with a medium body imparting sweet citrus notes, like mandarin, and finish with a refreshing astringency.  Our organic Ceylon black loose leaf tea is a lovely balance of sweet and tart: a clean, refreshing, sipping adventure, whether served hot or cold, at any hour of the day.

Base leaf: Organic black tea.

Health properties: Antioxident properties and general restorative.

Best Ceylon I've tasted

I've probably tasted five or six Ceylon teas from different tea shops. This is the best I've tasted so far. It's very smooth and mellow. Delicious at any time of day.

It sounds like you are not caffeine sensitive, Kathleen. If you were, you might be interested to know that we have caffeinated as well as decaf Ceylon. Yummy, any time of the day!

Nice flavor

I have ordered this tea twice. It’s very good.
It doesn’t have the overly sweet or mellow taste of certain brands of Ceylon - it is more brisk,
which I prefer. I add slightly more tea than is recommended, but I’m sure everyone has their own preferences. I also tried the Assam sample that was included and added a bit of my own Darjeeling. That was excellent also.
I recommend Good Life Tea.

Thank you for your review, Marie! May you enjoy many hours of savoring your tea.

Versatile & Go-To Crowd Pleaser

This Ceylon tea is good hot without milk or brewed stronger and milk added. It is less floral than English Breakfast (but also less bitter), less malty than Assam, and has a pleasant, understated citrus note. I enjoyed my cup of this tea very much! In the summer, I think Ceylon makes particularly good iced tea. I find my guests consistently like it, too. It is not an "acquired taste" like some more dramatic teas. I really like Ceylon. It's not my favorite (except for iced tea), but it never disappoints.

Your comments are most welcome and perceptive. Ceylon makes an excellent iced tea.
